Hometown: Williamstown, KY/Fair Oaks, CA

Favorite Activities: Hanging out with my wife and three kids! I also enjoy exercising, playing video games on the Nintendo Switch and PS5, fostering conversations about challenging topics, hiking, fishing.

What drew me into this program: the people, hands down. I loved meeting with Dr. Turner and the residents during the interview season, and I felt like this was home! From a training perspective, I knew I wanted to have 1) a Med-Peds clinic and 2) my own panel of patients to take care of for four years so that I could prepare for primary care. Additionally, I wanted diversity in my patients. Specifically, I felt it was important to train in a location that gave me more exposure to Black/African American patients as well as Spanish-speaking patients in order to better care for these populations. Ultimately, I had the best feelings about ECU Health when I interviewed here!

What drew me into this program: The people! The residents and staff are great. You can tell they genuinely love what they do and care for each other like family. As a Brody medical student, I was able to see how kind and talented the med-peds residents are and I am very excited to join them!

What drew me into this program: ECU is home and who would not want to stay home and work. ??Having worked at ECU Research team and had great exposure at the hospital and our diverse patient population there was no going back for me. Dr. Turner and entire program administration is amazing for resident support. The biggest thing, the program has great comradery, and the residents are a small family within which is a great plus point. In short not only it is an academically strong program but also a program that nourishes a great environment.

What drew me into this program: The undeniable family-feel with this program was obvious during my interview (which was via a web-call). Once I came to meet everyone in person, the bond was even stronger than I had originally thought. The support and camaraderie here is unmatched, and I know without a doubt that being a part of this program is the best thing that could have happened to my medical career. ECU Health provides this amazing blend of great education and great people.

Medical School: Brody School of Medicine ECU

Favorite Activities: Hikes with a view, long walks with my husky dog, and playing ping pong

What drew me into this program: This program drew me in immediately as I began clinical rotations during medical school here at ECU Health. The leadership, strong medical knowledge, and effective teamwork portrayed by the residents were apparent throughout my clinical rotations and set this program apart from others. Furthermore, the opportunity this program offers to serve many underserved patient populations of Eastern North Carolina aligned with my own personal aspirations. This combined with the strong sense of community and big family atmosphere this program emphasizes made me feel at home. The Med-Peds program here truly cares about the person as much as the patient.

What drew me into this program: It’s trite but true, the people are incredible. Dr. Turner has a way of making you feel so welcome and so sure that your future will be whatever you want to make of it. The residents did an amazing job telling me what to expect from the med-peds, IM, and Peds programs so I felt that I was going in with all the information I would need!
