What drew me to this program: I was immediately drawn to the spirit of the program during my interview day. I felt extremely confident that this program would provide a safe space for me to learn and grow as a physician. Additionally, I have always been passionate about practicing in communities that experience systemic barriers in healthcare- especially in the area of oncology. I believe that training in Greenville and serving the patient population of ECU Health will be an invaluable step in my journey to honor that passion.

Favorite Activities: Spending time with family and friends, playing board games, going to the movies, working puzzles, playing video games with my brother-in-law, and FaceTiming my nephews, Benjamin and Brooks (I will probably show you 7000 pictures!)
What drew me to this program: I knew I wanted to be at an academic institution where I would see a wide array of pathology from a diverse patient population, but I also wanted to be in an environment that fostered community, emphasized compassion, and provided space to grow not only as a physician but as a person. During virtual interviews, making connections with people is extremely difficult. It’s also hard to ascertain if the interactions you’re viewing between residents/faculty/staff at an institution are genuine. My ECU Health Med Peds interview was the exception. I could instantly tell these people truly cared about their patients and each other. I had zero doubts or hesitation about if the residents spent time together or would lend a helping hand in times of need. Being here now only shows just how little I knew at the time because everyone is much closer than I even expected! As someone a thousand miles away from my family, I’m glad to have found such a supportive and caring group to challenge me daily and lift me up when needed!

What drew me to the program: I fell in love with ECU during an audition rotation on the pediatrics side. Every Med/Peds program TALKS about how their people are the best but ECU SHOWS it. During my four-week rotation, I received countless one-on-one advice about residency from current residents, invites to hangout and see Greenville, and loads of encouragement about the process. I always felt appreciated and validated as a part of the team. Dr. Turner and the entire Med/Peds faculty have truly created a wonderful place to learn.

What drew me to the program: After living abroad in France and Italy for several years I was ready to settle down and start a family. I am so fortunate to have had the opportunity to not only go to medical school in my hometown, but also to pursue my chosen specialty of med-peds right here in Greenville, NC. The location is not the only thing that attracted me to our program as it boasts an amazing array of faculty and our very own Med-Peds clinic which were very important aspects to me when deciding where to train. The mentors here are enthusiastic about patient care and dedicated to serving our community. The camaraderie between residents is unparalleled!

What drew me to the program: During my time in Greenville for medical school, I became passionate about being able to serve the marginalized and vulnerable patient population of eastern NC. I am eager to continue my training at ECU Health, where I know I will gain more experience with underserved populations, all while being exposed to a high level of pathology. I was also drawn to the program’s commitment to diversity, LGBTQ+ initiatives, and focus on primary care.
Finally, I knew the Med Peds community more resembled a close-knit family with endless support from all of the co-residents, faculty members, and the program directors – just the type of environment I sought for my residency training.

What drew me to this program: Almost every Med-Peds program offers great training with good exposure to diverse adult and pediatric populations. ECU is no exception; with its huge catchment area we see patients from all walks of life. But what really attracted me to this program was the people. From the first pre-interview resident virtual meet & greet, I got the sense that these people really liked each other. I knew any program could teach me the nuts and bolts of medicine, but I knew I wanted to train at a place where collegiality was a core value. Since I’ve been here, I’ve felt welcomed and supported by my co-residents, attendings, program leadership, nurses, and other staff around the medical center, I’ve felt like part of the family since day one.
