What drew me to this program: This program has so many opportunities. I’ve heard numerous times that once I leave here, I’ll be prepared for anything. You get to experience a diverse population with a variety of exposure to different pathologies. It’s located in a place where you can have community, have everything you need, even good food, and you’re not too far for a little adventure, whether the hustle and bustle of the city, mountains, or the beach. This program creates such a supportive environment from faculty, staff to residents. Last but not least, Dr. Turner is so awesome, and she wants to see you thrive.

Hometown: Augusta, GA
Medical school: Mercer University SOM-Savannah campus
Favorite Activities: Cooking new things, knitting, painting, hiking, and walking my two pups!
What drew me to this program: This program combined my love for rural health and helping people with all different needs with my desire to be in a place with amazing teachers and opportunities. I felt like I could be nurtured and pushed forward in my career at the same time. From the beginning I could feel the love that every person involved had for this place and I am so excited I get to be a part of it!
Jacob Vaught, DO
(He/him/his)
Hometown: Williamsburg, Virginia
Medical School: Edward Via College of Osteopathic Medicine, Virginia Campus
Favorite Activities: I enjoy playing guitar, surfing/snowboarding, bouldering, and never turn down a chance to play soccer. I also love spending time with my church community and talking with people about the gospel.
What drew me to this program: I have an enormous interest in Medical Mission Work, which led my search towards broad-spectrum programs to accommodate this goal. With the option to pursue time abroad and study Global Health during my training, ECU was a perfect fit. Additionally, ECU’s training at a high-volume trauma center with a large diversity of pathology on every rotation was attractive. A passion I share with this program is a vested interest in serving the underserved, marginalized, and vulnerable populations. Most importantly, ECU Med-Peds is a supportive and tight-knit community, a theme of medical training I desperately wanted.
